Toronto – 5549 km to Santiago

I arrived in Toronto on the redeye from SF. On the last day of visiting family last week I mentioned I’d have a long layover on my way to Europe and might go to the Blue Jays game in the afternoon. My cousin Jeannine mentioned she would want to bring the family to Toronto to hang out for the day. We loosely planned for them to pick me up around noon. I took the train to downtown Toronto and got my first look at the CN tower:

I got breakfast and checked out a train museum while waiting for the cousins to arrive. Jeannine mentioned that they have a surprise for me and I didn’t think much of it. My first thought was actually that they might have changed plans a little and brought their kids along for the day (which would’ve been awesome!). Long story short, she and 3 other cousins showed up in a limousine they had taken from home about 1.5 hours away! I had no idea but they had big plans for the 6 hours we would spend together from noon to 6:00 when I would go back to the airport.

The day turned into much more than I had anticipated. We started at a restaurant in the harbor. Jeannine went down to the water and hired a boat for a couple hours. After that, we went back to the distillery district for one last stop before the airport. We all may have had a few beverages by this point. Need I say more? I think I’ll just put a bunch of pictures here…

Thank you times a million to my cousins for a truly memorable day in Toronto!

Next stop is Zurich, and we are landing as I write this. I slept well after the events in Toronto. So well that I sat down and slept through takeoff. Time to go see grossmami (grandma in Swiss-German).
