Arriving to Leon yesterday marked the end of the Meseta and the beginning of a restful stay in the heart of the city. I knew at one point in my trip it would be good to take a rest day, let myself catch up on sleep and give my feet a chance to heal better. I was debating taking a rest day at all because I knew it might mean parting ways with The Group at least for a little bit.
We all arrived on the 9th of August and rented out an 8 bed private room for the night. We took our showers and I actually intended to go out to the town since it was only about 1:00pm, but absolutely knocked out in my bed. I think the whole group slept for 3 hours. There was another wholesome albergue music session with my good friend Geonne, and our guitar/ukelele combo. We played and sang while others listened and walked by.

After getting a nice dinner as a group, a few of us visited the cathedral and strolled around the city.

After dinner, my French walking partner I met on day 1, Charlie, asked if he could interview me for part of a video he is putting together. He is commemorating his and his wife’s 4 month long honeymoon on the Camino. I was honored he asked me to participate.

From there, we went to bed for a great long sleep. I woke up at 6:00 to say bye to much of the group who was leaving to keep walking that day. I was happy to get back to bed and sleep until about 9:00! From there, my rest day began. Touring the inside of the cathedral, eating delicious food, and relaxing at the hostel with fellow pilgrims is what the rest of my day looked like.

To end my day, I heard the best news – that my dad has a flight to Santiago and will join me for the last few days of walking. I am thankful and think this will be great for us. Dad, I am looking forward to taking this last step of the Camino together.
